Healthy People Hey!

Hey! Hello!

Being a healthcare professional, I should make sure I sprinkle some wisdom here to benefit the masses. There are areas that are dear to me that I will touch on. Being African-american, I may press on issues that affect our community as disparities are real even in the era of the Affordable Care Act.

So, we all know that common sense is not really common. I mean, who came up with that? As we approach the new year, are amid cold/flu season, getting into a new deductible season, let's be wise on our health.

Adults should have some staples at home to prevent unnecessary emergency room or urgent care visits. Good health starts with healthy choices of course. Eat well, drink water, exercise, get adequate sleep. Clubbing and fast food sounds good until you catch a good old-fashioned cold. Ibuprofen, tylenol or acetaminophen, Maalox or Mylanta, Tums, Benadryl, and Sudafed are good basic over-the-counter medications to have at home. These should be taken as directed or by the direction of your primary care provider if you take other prescribed medications or have other  chronic illnesses (i.e. kidney disease or liver disease).

Colds and the flu are caused by the virus. Depending on the strain, the symptoms can last up to 2 weeks, longer in some cases. Antibiotics do not treat viruses! Antibiotics can be dangerous when given if they are not indicated. This is why we have problems with superbugs and antibiotic resistance.
Um....there is nothing basically for a kid cough unless they have asthma....if they are young.

Wellness checks are important and are usually free, so get them done.

I'm not your private doctor, so don't blame me for anything going wrong. Seek real medical advice from your real doctor.
Until next time.
